Mr Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has stated that former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi is not the transformation Nigerians require.
Sowore stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Friday night, noting that Obi was part of the old political system that had damaged the country’s fortunes.
“Peter Obi is part of the old system that I’ve always campaigned against,” he stated. I can see where he’s coming from. This is 1999 all over again: Nigerians want change, some young people are genuinely interested in a different direction, and then they are presented with someone who worked for the establishment; someone who has been in the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the PDP again, and now the Labour Party. We can get emotional about it, but it is true.
When asked if he saw Obi’s candidacy as a threat, he answered, “I don’t see Peter Obi as a threat.” He’s no stranger to the corrupt system. Someone who served as governor of Anambra for eight years. He didn’t create any schools, no industries, and no power plants. He isn’t my type of progressive.”
Sowore, who ran for President for the first time in 2019, said he was better equipped to be the country’s President in 2023, owing to his 32-year pro-democracy campaign.
“I was the only contender in 2019 who did not cease campaigning or advocating.” I engaged in a lot of revolutionary acts that landed me in jail shortly after that election, and I’ve been doing so for roughly 32 years.”
