There was a small controversy at a wedding celebration when Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, was welcomed with what Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s (APC) associates refer to as his hymn.
The national anthem is typically sung at events honouring the APC presidential candidate by his political allies.
The anthem’s lyrics are “On your mandate, Bola, on your mandate, Bola, on your mandate, on your mandate, we shall stand,” and “On your mandate, Bola, on your mandate, on your mandate, we shall stand.”
However, the tone changed when Obi, who is quickly gathering support ahead of the 2023 elections, especially from young people, entered a wedding reception in Lagos.
The wedding guests raced to take selfies with him as soon as the MC announced his arrival, and the band changed their song to Tinubu’s hymn without disclosing the name of Obi’s opponent in the presidential campaign.
