Four more hostages held by the terrorists who assaulted an AK9 train in Kaduna state on March 28 have been freed.
Hajiya Halimatu Atta, an 85-year-old woman, and Adama Aliyu, her 53-year-old daughter, are among the captives who have been freed.
According to Tukur Mamu, a member of the negotiation team, the victims were freed on Friday after being held captive for more than four months.
In the meantime, Mamu has brought the terrorists’ plot to marry off Azurfa Lois John, 21, the youngest victim, to the notice of the Federal Government and the Christian Association of Nigeria, much as they did in the case of Leah Sharibu in Yobe state a few years ago.
Mamu claims that one of the terrorists’ top commanders is in love with Ms. John.
However, he begged the Federal Government and other stakeholders to step up efforts to secure the release of the 23 victims who are still in the terrorists’ custody. He claimed that their health conditions were appalling and required immediate medical attention.
Mamu also urged CAN to work closely with the appropriate authorities to confront the kidnappers of Ms. John before it’s too late, rather than politicising the situation or reducing it to press releases.
