The former Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice are accused of organ harvesting, but the British High Commission on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 indicated it would not comment on the matter.
Aneesah Islam, the head of the political section of the British High Commission in Abuja, made this statement during a private interview with Channels Television.
The Commission doesn’t comment on pending legal issues, the official claims.
When questioned about Ekweremadu’s potential immunity and the likelihood that the case would be transferred from the Central Criminal Court in the United Kingdom to Nigeria, Islam responded, “The British Government and therefore, in this instance, the British High Commission in Abuja do not comment on ongoing legal matters.”
Since 2003, Ekweremadu, 60, has served as the senator from Enugu-West in the National Assembly. From 2007 through 2019, he served three times as vice president of the Senate.
In order to succeed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in his home state of Enugu State, the current senator and member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party had shown interest in running for governor. However, he later announced his resignation.
