Dr. Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, is running for governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos and claims that the party is prepared to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the current administration.
In Lagos over the weekend, Jandor addressed at a strategic stakeholders meeting and during the PDP’s official media presentation of its 69 candidates.
All 69 of the party’s candidates, he claimed, have vowed to defeat the state’s current administration, the APC, in the general elections of 2023.
Jandor stressed that “it’s time to get the second governor, the people’s and popular governor with a breath of fresh air” after pointing out that Lagos has been rotating through only one governor for more than 20 years, under the direction of one individual.
According to Jandor, “We, the 69 candidates of the PDP have resolved to take back Lagos from the grip of one man who has held the state down for the past 23 years. This time it’s game over.
” We are not joking about this. We have the majority of people in the state who are tired of the present situation behind us to flush APC out this time around.”
He listed the 69 candidates in the following order, including three senatorial candidates from Lagos: Segun Adewale from Lagos West, Wale Gomez from Lagos Central, and Nicholas Akobandi from Lagos East.
Also, 24 House of Representatives candidates which include pop star singer, Bankole Wellington, popularly called “Banky W” who is the candidate of Eti-Osa Federal Constituency; 40 Lagos House of Assembly candidates and Governorship, Jandor and his running mate, Nollywood star actress, Funke Akindele.
Talking about religious balancing of the 69 candidates, Jandor said; “Gentlemen of the press, it will interest you to know that of all our candidates in Lagos state, 48 percent are Muslims while 52 percent are Christians.”
On the demographics, Jandor said; “ We are mindful of the yearnings of Lagosians and we have presented to them a balanced candidates.
“23 per cent of the 69 candidates are below the age of 40. 41 per cent below the age of 50 and 36 per cent above the age of 50. We have come with a breath of fresh air.”
When asked what he would do differently as governor, Jandor stated: “First and foremost, we want a breath of fresh air on our highways and in our education sector, where we have almost 2 million children who are not attending school.
“Lagos is only wealthy on paper we want to make it obvious in action. The 69 of us want to take that wealth and return it to the people.
“We want to elect governor that will not need second level of approval to get things done.
“We want an independent governor, governor that Lagosians can call their own,” among others.
