The women’s 100-meter hurdles gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom, went to Nigerian Tobi Amusan.
In the women’s 100-meter hurdles final on Sunday at the Alexander Stadium, the 25-year-old world champion successfully defended her title.
Amusan shattered numerous records to earn Nigeria’s first gold medal at a World Championships event in Oregon, United States, InsightnaijaTV reports.
Amusan became the first world champion to win gold and the first Nigerian athlete to do so as he ran a Games record of 12.30 seconds while also setting other marks.
She broke the Birmingham Games Record and won the gold with a lightning-quick 12.30-second run.
Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas (12.58 seconds), who won silver, and Cindy Sember of England (12.59 seconds), who won bronze, came in close behind the eventual champion.
Nigeria currently has 31 medals overall and 10 gold medals after this outcome.
The 1994 team’s record of 11 gold medals at the Commonwealth Games is currently only one behind, and Team Nigeria is six behind the record for total medals (37 medals).
Nigeria can and will hope for more because Ese Brume, who won silver at the World Athletics Championship, is still competing later today and seven contests still have a chance to bring the team gold on the last day.
