Kola Oshola, a representative of the Nigerian Legion, was shot by a police officer during the illegal implementation of the Okada ban in Lagos state.
On Friday, Oshola was shot by officers from the Ogombo Division at the Scheme 2 Estate on the Lekki Peninsula.
Oshola is currently fighting for his life as doctors try to save him after being shot in the thigh by Supol Abayomi.
Before the use of commercial motorbikes on main roads in Lagos was outlawed, it was reported that police officers assigned to the division who were on illegal duty would enter the estate, take one or two Okadas, and demand payment before releasing them to the owners.
Okada drivers protested to the estate chairman about the police’s illegal operations within the estate. The chairman of Scheme 2 Estate gave the Nigeria Legion officials instructions to step in whenever the policemen tried to extort the operators by entering the estate.
Things came to a head on Friday when police officers from the division attacked the estate in large numbers to detain Okada operators inside the state, while representatives of the Nigerian Legion intervened under estate orders.
The official’s involvement infuriated the police, who then made a shooting threat. then struck the victim in the thigh.
