The claim that Nnamdi Kanu, the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, was poisoned was refuted by Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the attorney for his client.
According to Mr. Ejiofor, KANU was never poisoned and the rumors were merely spread by troublemakers.
He revealed this on Monday in a statement that he made accessible to reporters right away following his customary visit to Kanu, who is being held by the Department of State Services, DSS.
He said that the imprisoned IPOB leader conveyed his cordial greetings to all responsible in the restoration of the relative peace being felt in the South-East during the meeting and urged that it be maintained.
Ejiofor’s statement, titled “Update On Our Routine Visit To Our Indefatigable Client- Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu At The Headquarters Of The Department Of State Services (DSS) Abuja, Today, Being The 1st of August, 2022”, read
“Our Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been held in the DSS solitary confinement for OVER A YEAR now, was visited by Our team of Lawyers, today in line with the subsisting Order of Court.
“The visit was still conducted in line with the new DSS guideline, which clearly run afoul of the Court’s Ordered guideline.
“As the first to meet with Onyendu, I had a very fruitful briefing with him on matters exclusively related to his current case. Onyendu was satisfied with the level of progress being recorded, which details are to remain private.
“In view of the desperate efforts of some mischief makers, who are ceaselessly keeping the social media agog with blatant falsehood, all in a bid to present a situation capable of heightening tension in our land, we wish to categorically state in very clear terms that Onyendu was never poisoned by anybody.
“We urge UmuChineke to always endeavor to seek for clarification through the appropriate channel whenever these enemies of our people peddle these falsehoods.
“In his usual conviviality, Onyendu extends his warm greetings and love to you all, his followers and UmuChineke. He remains strong in his conviction and belief that there must be light at the end of the tunnel. His freedom is sacrosanct and it will happen soon.
“Also, Onyendu specially thanked UmuChineke and all actors legitimately involved in restoring relative peace, presently being enjoyed in the entire South-East. He urged that the tempo should be sustained.
“We remain eternally grateful to you all, for your prayers, uncommon solidarity and support, particularly at this critical time. We do not take it for granted.
“Thank you all, Ezigbo UmuChineke and remain blessed, even as you continue to remain law abiding as you have always been. We move!”.
