Ogun State’s Governor Dapo Abiodun claims he now has the authority to order the destruction of structures used by cults as cover.
Abiodun claimed that the State government had passed a law giving the governor the authority to demolish any homes serving as safe havens for cultists.
“I have signed a law that now empowers me to demolish any house where a cultist is caught,” Gov Abiodun stated.
The Governor spoke on Thursday at Alhaji Teslim Dawodu’s 90th birthday celebration in Sagamu.
Abiodun expressed displeasure at the frequency of cult fights in the Gateway State, but he insisted that his government would not relent and would use all available means to put an end to cultism in Ogun.
The governor of Sagamu voiced worry that cultists were upsetting the social peace.
The government, he claimed, was putting resources to use to monitor the Sagamu issue.
Abiodun noted that in the past, cultists had occasionally been detected among college students.
He regretted that, “these days, you will find out that cultists are now your mechanic, vulcanizer, bricklayer and when you even ask them why they are involved, they don’t even understand.”
Abiodun urged property owners in Ogun to make sure they had the information on their tenants in order to prevent having their homes demolished.
Before renting out their homes, Abiodun encouraged the landlords to “KYC,” or get to know their tenants.
“This is because if we should catch anyone who is involved in cultism and lives in your house, we will demolish such a house,” the Governor stressed.
