The Federal Capital Territory’s strategic locations would have personnel deployed, according to the Nigeria Police Force (FCT).
The development came after many security alerts from government agencies warning of terrorist attacks planned in the North West and North East states.
The statement read, “The IGP has ordered for additional deployment of assets to Strategic areas of the FCT while the Force Intelligence Bureau has been charged on robust intelligence gathering and information sharing amongst other agencies.
“All residents of the FCT are urged to synergise and be on the same page with the Police and other security agencies in making sure that we forestall any ugly incidences in and around the FCT.”
The police’s instruction further supports an alert issued by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) regarding attacks in the states of Lagos, Katsina, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Zamfara, Kaduna, and Kogi.
In all strategically important locations, including schools, houses of worship, and vital national assets in the impacted areas, the agency directed a scaled-up deployment.
Several government security agencies have issued alerts in the 21 days since the attack on the Kuje Correctional Facility in Abuja regarding terrorist schemes to target critical locations, including prisons in the North.
Following the recent terrorist attacks and threats, the situation has further contributed to widespread concern across the nation.
Terrorists had written to the Nigeria Law School and other nearby areas over the weekend to announce their coming. In an effort to thwart the raid, troops were attacked, and eight Brigade Guard were reportedly killed.
After that, isolated attacks in Abuja’s suburbs like Kwali, where a couple and the wife of a Fulani chieftain were kidnapped, were recorded.
An explosive device created by unidentified people and planted inside the Kogi office building of the state’s secretary was discovered and neutralized.
In the Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara, on Monday, criminals killed four people and kidnapped thirty others in the Morai community.
