The Yorubas will not lay down their arms as terrorists wreck devastation on their territory, according to Iba Gani Adams, Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba country.
He said the Yoruba people are prepared to defend themselves against terrorism and urged the terrorists not to continue trying their patience and fortitude.
Adams declared that the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and other members of the Southwest Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG) will no longer allow such attacks.
The Aare spoke on Tuesday while paying a visit to HRM Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, the Olowo of the Owo kingdom.
Adams stated that steps were being made to prevent a repeat of the June 5 massacre in a statement released by his spokesperson, Kehinde Aderemi.
Gunmen opened fire at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, killing around 40 worshippers.
The West Africa Province of the Islamic State (ISWAP) was to blame, according to the Federal Government.
According to Adams, the tragedy is still the most horrifying act of terrorism in Yoruba modern history.
The chief recalls announcing his support for making the town safe in a statement to comfort the king and the populace.
“I also wrote a letter informing the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Antonio Guterres of the need to prevent further calamity capable of destroying Nigeria, like what happened in Bosnia,” he said.
Adams noted that the document was sent to state security departments all across the world as well as the international community.
“This time around, the Yoruba are more united; we are not cowards. In Yoruba land, we have never lost any war.
“Therefore, we are not going to relent or relax until we get rid of terrorists across the Southwest”, he vowed.
Thanking Adams for his efforts in defending the area, Oba Ogunoye attributed the increased level of insecurity on the federal system of governance.
The king emphasized that the creation of State police will guarantee the nation’s internal security.
“Owo people are prepared to defend themselves against external aggressors”, he asserted.
