Former advisor to President Muhammadu Buhari Bashir Ahmad has pleaded with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to bar Peter Obi from running for president in 2023.
On Sunday, Ahmad announced the decision on Twitter.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, and Obi were being sued by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for choosing stand-ins as their running mates.
The reason for Ahmad’s call was that Obi’s name wasn’t on the LP’s membership list.
Recall that on May 26, 2022, Obi left the PDP for the LP.
He tweeted “In line with EA2022, the INEC should disqualify the LP presidential candidate from contesting the 2023 election.
“The candidate isn’t on the party’s membership list submitted to the electoral body. The list was submitted on April 25, while the candidate joined the party on May 26.”
