The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has received praise from the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, for completely outlawing SPY number plates nationwide.
This was said in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), Bisi Kazeem.
IGP Alkali-Baba had issued an absolute prohibition on the usage of Police SPY Car Number Plates by vehicle owners in every state of the union.
He claimed that the order was required to stop people driving about with the privileges of SPY police number plates continuously disobeying traffic laws and other laws governing how to utilize the roads.
In order to enforce the directive, Oyeyemi instructed FRSC Commanding Officers across the country to work with the Police Force.
The IGP’s order to completely ban SPY number plates and to immediately switch back to the original registered number plates, he claimed, made the commendation essential.
The Corps Marshal further instructed Commanding Officers to make sure that every effort was made to enforce the specific order.
He says that drivers who display faded license plates should try to get new ones in order to prevent having their vehicles impounded.
Oyeyemi issued an order for the immediate and full force impoundment of private automobiles with commercial number plates.
He emphasized the dangers to national security of continuing to utilize faded and other illegal vehicle number plates.
“The use of the SPY and other unauthorised number plates to continually violate traffic rules and regulations must be brought to a halt.
“Hence the directive given to Commanding Officers to brace up and ensure that they give adequate priority to the enforcement,” he said.
