In two separate robbery operations in the state, the Delta Police Command purportedly killed three suspected armed robbers and detained one.
This information was revealed in a statement made accessible to newsmen on Sunday in Warri by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe.
Edafe claimed that the three were shot on Thursday by police officers assigned to the respective Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ozoro Division in Isoko North and Orogun Division in Ughelli North.
He said that one of the victims had been shot in Ozoro and had passed away while receiving treatment, while the other two had been shot in Orogun and had also passed away while receiving care.
“On June 23, at about 0500hrs, the DPO, Ozoro, acting on a distress call, that armed robbers were operating at Etereva Street, Ozoro in Isoko North LGA, mobilised and led a combined team of police and vigilantes to the scene.
“On arrival, the hoodlums engaged the team in a shootout, during which one of the armed robbers sustained bullet injuries, while the others escaped.
“The injured suspect later gave up the ghost while receiving treatment at the hospital,” he said.
One cut-to-size single barrel gun, two spent cartridges, and one laptop were found on the suspects, according to Edafe, who also said that a manhunt was being conducted to find the gang’s evading members.
Regarding the Orogun incident, Edafe stated that the DPO responded quickly after receiving a distress call that some armed robbers were operating on Igbuku Road.
“The DPO, Orogun Division, SP. Obonoh Ndem, led a team of police and vigilantes to the scene and engaged the armed robbers in a gun duel.
“During which two of the suspected armed robbers sustained bullet injuries, while one Benedict Agbawara was arrested.
“The injured suspects were taken to the hospital, where they later died while receiving treatment,” he said.
Three cut-to-size guns built locally, one live round, one motorcycle, according to Edafe, who also noted that the command was already looking into the situation.
