Today in Port Harcourt, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, is scheduled to meet with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s presidential candidate (Friday).
The meeting will take place as the former governor of Kano State looks for a running mate before the federal elections in 2023.
In order to discuss the likelihood of the two parties joining forces, Kwankwaso has been meeting with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
Who will step down to become the other’s running companion has been causing stumbling blocks in the debate.
The fact that Kwankwaso met with Wike today might be a sign that he wants the governor of Rivers State to be his running mate.
InsightnaijaTV reports that the politicians’ aides verified Kwankwaso and Wike’s meeting.
On Friday at 2:30 PM, in Port Harcourt, the meeting with a focus on the 2023 presidential election would begin.
Recall that allegations Kwankwaso assisted Wike in winning a sizable number of votes from Kano delegates during the PDP presidential primary.
Even though Kwankwaso defected to the NNPP, his allies still run the PDP in Kano State.
Prior to the 2023 election, it is unclear if Wike will leave the major opposition party and join Kwankwaso.
Since losing the PDP vice presidential nomination to his counterpart, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Delta State, Wike has stayed silent.
Since then, he has met with representatives from the opposition parties, including Obi of the LP and David Umahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor of Ebonyi State.
