On who he will support in the Nigerian presidential election of 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari has made a decision.
President Buhari recently stated in an interview with Bloomberg News that he will back the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, is the APC contender for the 2023 election, InsightnaijaTV reports.
President Buhari responded in the positive when asked if he intended to endorse a candidate for president and who that person would be.
“Yes. I will endorse the APC candidate for president,” the Nigerian leader declared.
You may recall that Tinubu won the APC’s primary election, which ended on June 8, 2022, and went on to become the party’s presidential nominee.
The vice president Yemi Osinbajo and former transport minister Rotimi Ameachi, who received 316 and 235 votes, respectively, and 13 other candidates, were defeated by the APC national leader, who received 1,271 votes.
With Tinubu’s victory, he will compete for the right to succeed President Buhari in 2023 against Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the NNPP, and other candidates from other parties.
The date for the 2023 presidential election has been set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as Saturday, February 25, 2023.
