Carlos Tevez, who is 38 years old, has declared his retirement from football, citing the death of his father as the reason for declining offers to continue playing.
In England, Tevez had a brilliant career, playing for both Manchester United and Manchester City.
In addition to three different spells with his boyhood club Boca Juniors, he has played for Corinthians, West Ham United, Juventus, and Shanghai Shenhua.
Tevez played his final game for Boca Juniors in 2021 before saying his goodbyes, while he left the door open for a move to another team for the time being.
Tevez, however, told Mundo Albiceleste on Friday that despite receiving offers from Major League Soccer in the United States, he had decided to retire playing because he no longer had his “number one fan” following the death of his father.
“I have retired, it’s confirmed,” he said. “They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that’s it, I have given everything.
“Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan.”
Tevez won a total of 26 titles during his career, making him one of just four Argentine players to win both the CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup and the Champions League, which he won with Manchester United in 2008.
He also represented Argentina in two World Cups, in 2006 and 2010.
