On Tuesday, Russia and Ukraine began a new round of face-to-face peace negotiations in Istanbul in an attempt to reach a ceasefire.
Prior to the meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the moment had come for concrete outcomes from the negotiations.
The Turkish president demanded a speedy ceasefire, claiming that a prolonged battle was not in anyone’s best interests.
“The world is waiting for good news from you.
“We are ready for any contribution that can make your job easier,’’ Erdogan said.
He went on to say that Turkey was willing to host a summit between Russian and Ukrainian leaders.
Russia and Ukraine have undertaken three rounds of face-to-face peace negotiations and a series of online discussions since February 28, but have yet to reach a substantial accord.
