The Ballon d’Or will no longer be an annual event, but rather a summer event, organizers said on Friday.
According to France Football, players’ performances will now be evaluated during a season (August-July) rather than a calendar year (January-December).
InsightnaijaTV learned that the modifications mean that the next edition of the individual player award will be for the 2021/22 season rather than 2022.
The forthcoming World Cup will also count for the 2022/23 season, according to the organizers.
InsightnaijaTV understands that the publication contained an entity revolution in comparison to what has come before.
The following is a summary of the changes made by the Ballon d’Or organizers today, as visible on its official website:
The Ballon door award has traditionally been given to the best player of the year.
There has been no change from its beginning to this point.
The awards have been established to recognize the best from January to December (on an annual basis), as well as to judge and assess two half-seasons – January-July and August-December (sometimes accompanied by club changes in the off-season).
However, rather than a single season, the award will now be given out each summer.
A more powerful list would now be derived to choose the winners. Because the Ballon d’Or begins with the announcement of the famous lists of nominees (thirty for men, twenty for women, and ten for the Yachine and Kopa Trophies), it was decided to emphasize this crucial step.
To present a selection of suitors that is as fair, indisputable, and relevant as possible, we have changed the procedure that has previously mostly involved the writing of France Football. To the lists of FF (and L’Équipe) journalists, those of BO ambassador Didier Drogba (for the men’s BO and the Yachine and Kopa Trophies), as well as the voter who demonstrated the most understanding in the previous edition, will now be included.
The award will now have a more stringent voting system: Because the Ballon d’Or has grown from sixteen European jurors in 1956 to one hundred and seventy (2021) jurors from all over the world, it can boast of an astounding and unrivaled universality.
This is what gives it its clout and reputation. Is the judgment, however, ten times finer and better with ten times the number of jurors? Couldn’t the jury’s arrogance end up weakening it? The openness to “small” countries (those without a large natural football culture or historical legitimacy, and who do not always have easy access to images of the main events) did not risk occasionally parasitizing the ballot, lack of adequate knowledge or expertise?
A clearer set of regulations: The Ballon d’Or rules haven’t altered much since its establishment, and the criteria are regularly contested.
As a result, the organizers decided it was time to update the hierarchy of the constituent parts in the vote for more uniformity and clarity, as well as to eliminate any ambiguities.
