Salihu Lukman, a former director-general of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has stated that Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe state, has betrayed President Muhammadu Buhari’s trust.
According to Lukman, the president made a “desirable” decision by replacing Buni as chairman of the All Progressives Congress’ Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) with Niger state governor Abubakar Sani Bello (APC).
Recall that Buhari had ordered Buni to be replaced as acting chairman of the APC while he was on medical leave in Dubai.
The president was forced to change his leadership after learning of Buni’s plan to sabotage the APC’s national convention.
In a chat with Arise TV on Wednesday, Lukman reacted to the development by saying Buni took advantage of Buhari’s hesitation to “micromanage” the party’s affairs and took some audacious steps.
“Buni betrayed the trust of the president,” Lukman said.
“The leadership style of President Muhammadu Buhari defers from other leaders’ because while he gives you responsibility, he doesn’t micromanage you, but somehow Buni audaciously took steps based on the kind of trust of the president.
