South Africa’s former President, Jacob Zuma, reacted to Russia’s invasion of its neighboring country, Ukraine, on Sunday.
Zuma referred to the US and its allies as “bullies” in a statement distributed by his foundation.
According to the former president, the US and its western allies are using Ukraine to drive Russia to its knees through unjustified sanctions.
Zuma, who is currently on trial in his home nation for corruption, claimed that Russia invaded Ukraine to protect itself from NATO expansion.
He went on to say that he is confident that Russian President Vladimir Putin will take steps to make peace a reality.
Zuma described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a man of peace who has worked tirelessly to guarantee global peace and stability.
He wrote, “I am certain that His Excellency President Vladimir Putin will reciprocate and will bring all his power to make peace a reality, as I know him to be a man of peace who has worked hard to ensure peace and stability in the globe.”
