Some supporters of Yoruba separatist leader Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, stormed the Benin Republic Consulate General on Victoria Island in Lagos to protest his detention.
Igboho should be released from detention in the Benin Republic, according to the activists.
They descended on the Consulate General’s office, displaying placards stating their demands and begging with Yoruba leaders and other Nigerians to release Igboho.
They advised Igboho not to die in detention, stating he was innocent.
Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were imprisoned in Benin Republic in July while attempting to fly to Germany after a violent raid on his house in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
They charged Igboho with stockpiling weapons in order to fight the Nigerian government in his quest for a separate Yoruba republic.
Igboho has disputed the allegations.
He is being held in the Benin Republic while the Nigerian government attempts to extradite Igboho from the neighboring West African country.
