Mukaila Adamu, a 30-year-old cigarette salesman in Idiroko, Ogun State, was reportedly beaten to death by a customer, Biodun Adebiyi, over a $50 debt.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, stated on Monday that the alleged killer was apprehended by state police officers on Sunday.
The suspect was apprehended after the deceased’s father, Adamu Abubakar, filed a report with the Idiroko Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the PPRO, the deceased’s father reported that the suspect came to his shop in Idiroko’s Ajegunle neighborhood at around 2 p.m. to buy cigarettes, and his son assisted him.
He went on to say that the suspect returned around 10 p.m. the same day and demanded the remaining $50.
According to Abubakar, the demand sparked a fight between the suspect and his son.
The devastated father claimed that during the argument, the suspect landed a series of punches on his son, causing him to collapse.
The boy was brought to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, he claimed.
The Divisional Police Officer, Idiroko, CSP Shadrach Oriloye, instantly led his men to the location, where the culprit was quickly detained, according to Oyeyemi.
He stated that the deceased’s body had been sent to a mortuary for an autopsy.
According to the PPRO, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department’s Homicide Section for further investigation.
