South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was met by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
On Wednesday, Ramaphosa arrived at the Villa about 10 a.m. and was greeted by Buhari.
He was then given a 21-gun salute after inspecting a guard of honour.
His visit to the Villa comes just hours after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control verified the country’s first three cases of the Omicron strain of COVID-19, alleging that they are related to South African travelers.
Following the addition of South Africa to the list of nations prohibited from entering Canada, Nigeria was added to the list of countries prohibited from entering the North American country.
South Africa, which has been identified as the source of the latest COVID19 strain Omicron, has already been barred from entering more than a dozen nations by its people and others.
