Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, has warned Nigerians about thieves using face masks to conceal their identity and rob people across the country.
On Friday, October 29, at the ceremonial welcoming of delegates to the Nigerian Media Merit Awards in Lokoja, the state capital, the governor said that COVID-19 had been exaggerated in Nigeria, claiming that Nigerians had been dealing with diseases more dangerous than the virus.
“In fact, criminals were even using the face mask to disguise. They close their faces and lodge in hotels. They go to places, so you can’t identify them. I was made to understand that coronavirus was less than one per cent lethal; even ordinary fever is more lethal than coronavirus.”
Further, the governor, who has long downplayed the threat of Coronavirus, stated:
“We continued until when we were almost compelled to lock down and that was the turning point. When you see an enemy coming, I have not seen who the enemy is or who they are, how armed they are, and then I would tell my people to go into hiding, die of hunger, die of deprivation, and what have you.
When I see the adversary and the weapon they’re holding, and I don’t have a superior weapon to oppose them, I’ll know what to do for my people. I will not lock down my people because of coronavirus since we have seen outbreaks of more serious diseases in Kogi State.
We have Lassa fever, yellow fever, and communities where certain chemicals were ingested, and we have had cause to regulate all of that in Kogi State without exaggerating it. So, why should I confine my people?”
Locking our people down would bring a lot of harm; it could be economic, there would be security implication; in fact, it could even lead to corruption.”
Wow, this post is pleasant, my sister is analyzing these things, so I am going to let know her.
I was wondering if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?
Way cool! Some very valid points! I appreciate you writing this article and the rest of the site is very good.
