Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has formally written to the Federal Government to suspend the blockade of telecommunications services earlier imposed on 14 local government areas of the state.
Governor Tambuwal disclosed this Saturday, October 23, 2021 when he received a delegation of the North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) represented by Governors of Borno and Gombe, Babagana Aymara Zulum and Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, respectively, who paid a condolence visit to the state over last week’s bandits attack.
The Sokoto governor said the call for the rescinding of the blockade was necessary due to concerns expressed by security outfits in the state that the outage was affecting the smooth conduct of their works.
He said the state government has already forwarded a letter to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy to review the internet blockade.
Recall that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Monday, disclosed that the state is collaborating with the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy to block telecom services in fourteen local government areas of the state.
The governor in a statement by Muhammad Bello, his Special Adviser Media and Publicity, noted that thirteen of these local government areas have been initially affected by the September 1st Security Challenges Containment Order, which closed some roads to motorists, suspended livestock trades, prohibited transportation of cattle as well as transportation of more than three persons on motorcycles and tricycles among others restrictions.
“The areas affected by the Executive Order include: Gada, Goronyo, Gudu, Ilela, Isa, Kebbe and Sabon Birni. The remaining are: Shagari, Rabah Tambuwal Tangaza, Tureta and Wurno local government areas”, the statement said
