Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu paid a surprise visit to the Super Falcons’ training camp in Lagos ahead of their AWCON qualifier against Ghana.
The Falcons had beaten the Black Queens in the first leg of the tie earlier this week, soaring to a 2-0 victory ahead of the second leg, which is set to take place in Accra on Sunday.
As the nine-time African champions prepare to fly into Accra on Saturday, Sanwo-Olu urged football-loving Nigerians to rally behind the Super Falcons in their bid to qualify for the 12th AWCON finals in Morocco.
She added: “I am here to commend you for the victory over the Black Queens in the first leg and to assure you of support for the second leg match coming up in Accra on Sunday. I have the belief that you will make Nigeria proud.”
On Friday morning, Sanwo-Olu paid the team a surprise visit during their training session at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Sanwo-Olu was last seen at the inaugural Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament, which was hosted by Lagos last month, and the First Lagos is known for her support of the girl-child.
“You are indeed an inspiration to the girl-child, and we are proud of you,” she continued, praising team captain Asisat Oshoala for being a role model and shining example.
The Super Falcons’ team will arrive in Accra on a chartered Air Peace jet on Saturday morning for the match on Sunday. On Saturday, the team will have an official training session at the Accra Sports Stadium at 4 p.m. Ghana time (5 p.m. Nigeria time).
