Sikiru Obarayese, a correspondent for the DAILY POST in Osun State, was arrested for attending the EndSARS rally.
Despite identifying himself, Obarayese will be charged in court.
However, Police Commissioner Wale Olokode stated he was aware of the issue and has ordered the case to be dropped.
Yemisi Opalola, the State Police Public Relations Officer, expressed concern over the situation and stated that steps were being made to free the reporter.
She was disappointed, though, because Sikiru refused to leave the scene when the cops asked everyone to go. The reporter would be released, she informed DAILY POST, because the Commissioner was on top of the situation.
Before he was arrested, Sikairu was covering the EndSARS demonstration in the state.
The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Osun has criticized the incident.
