Police in Zamfara state have denied reports that they had apprehended seven serving soldiers who are extensively involved in banditry in the state.
This was said in a statement made on Sunday by the state’s police public relations officer, SP Mohammed Shehu.
According to the PPRO, documents show that no member of the military has been arrested as of yet, contrary to popular belief.
“The Command wishes to debunk the story and further makes it categorically clear that records at the moment indicate no arrest of any member of the military as being speculated on Social media”, he said.
The Command also urged the people to disregard fake news while advising against propagating false and unverified information, as any person or group found doing so will face the full wrath of the law.
“Members of the press and other social media users are urged to seek clarifications from appropriate authorities on any information that comes their way before going on air”, he appealed.
