Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos state, has granted clemency to some traffic offenders by decreasing their fines.
Sanwo-Olu took this move during an unplanned visit to the Lagos State Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Task Force) detention facility in Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday.
Sanwo-Olu visited the taskforce headquarters for an assessment of operational activities, according to Gboyega Akosile, the governor’s principal press secretary.
According to reports, the governor visited some traffic offenders who were waiting to be arraigned in a mobile court for a variety of traffic offenses.
They allegedly begged Sanwo-Olu to intervene while admitting to the crimes for which their vehicles had been seized.
Sanwo-Olu responded by calling their answers reprehensible and reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for traffic violations.
The governor stated that allowing offenders to escape the consequences of their actions would be inappropriate.
