Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has asked students to shun cultism and examination malpractices, twin evils that ravage academic institutions.

Emmanuel who was represented by the Commissioner of Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, appreciated management of the state-owned university for its zero tolerance for examination malpractice and cultism, adding that such a deposition has promoted excellence in the institution.

Addressing the matriculating students, the university’s vice chancellor, Prof Nse Essien, said the university has come of age in its 12 years of existence.
The vice chancellor said the institution has become one of the fastest in growth and excellence with a vision to sustain its academic standards, and promote a culture of production-driven research and practical learning experiences.
“Within this short 12 years of existence, the university can be said to have come of age as it has recorded tremendous success in various areas of its activities.”
“Today, a total number of 2,678 are matriculating into forty programmes in the eight faculties. I congratulate the matriculating students on their success and not to be distracted by bad company, shun cultism and other vices which may lead to suspension, rustication or expulsion from the university.”
