The Federal Government will on August 23, 2021 commence cash payment of Conditional Cash Transfers to beneficiaries nationwide to Citizens that do not have access to regular income and were severely impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown.
The National Coordinator of the programme, Hajiya Halima Shehu, said this while speaking with State Focal Persons of the National Social Investment Programme who paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja on Friday, August 20, 2021.
Shehu said that the delay in payment was due to the system strengthening process in the project to improve implementation and further enhance service delivery.
She said that it was also to ensure value for money, transparency and accountability while claiming that some States might not start receiving payment on August 23, 2021 due to some challenges but efforts were in place to rectify the challenges.
“Thirty per cent of its operations have been digitised and will recommence payment to its beneficiaries next week,” she said.
Halima urged the State Focal Persons to continue to support the programme to enable the Government of President Muhammad Buhari to achieve its set objectives of lifting 100 Nigerians out of poverty.
InTv reports that the programme was introduced by the Federal Government in 2016, in partnership with the World Bank to fortify social safety nets and establish a social protection system in Nigeria.
According to the National Coordinator, the programme is a component of Government’s resolve to reduce Community poverty in Nigeria.
