The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned “Yahoo Boys” and “Shady Leaders” in the country against criminal activities, reminding them that the agency is closely monitoring them.
The warning is contained in a statement, issued on Friday via the EFCC social media accounts.
A part of the agency’s message, which was worded in Nigerian Pidgin English, fingered cyber-scammers and unscrupulous politicians as causing the country reputational damage abroad.
“This na for the shady leaders wey dey carry our money go Overseas. This na for the Yahoo Yahoo boys wey dey spoil our Country name Overseas. For the lifestyle wey you dey love, make you know say there is an eye watching you,” the warning notice read on Facebook and Instagram’s official accounts of the agency.
EFCC had earlier this month warned that hotels guilty of accommodating internet fraudsters are liable to prosecution, following media reports which faulted the agency’s operation at a hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos.
It said the actions of such hoteliers contravene Section 3 of the “Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act.”
