The Kwara Youth Elites Forum says for the sake of equity, justice and fairness, power should be shifted to the Northern part of the State come 2023.
In a statement jointly signed on behalf of the three Senatorial districts by Mr. Abiodun Adewole, Central, Dr. Dunmoye Ismail, South and Hajia Aisha Yahyah Kwara North in Ilorin the group pointed out that Governorship position should be rotational among the senatorial districts.
The Kwara Youth Elites Forum expressed optimism that such step would lessen complaint of marginalisation among the heterogeneous communities that made up Kwara.
They recalled that late Governor Muhammed Lawal from Kwara Central, held the position for four years between 1999-2003, Senator Bukola Saraki occupied the office for eight years from 2003 to 2011 while the incumbent Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq took over office in 2019 and by 2023 a particular senatorial district would have occupied the office for fourteen years.
Kwara South had also held the position for eight years during the tenure of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed this is in addition of Kwara South being the Deputy Governor at various times up till date as the North only occupied Deputy Governor office in just eight years.
While noting that it is not in the constitution to zone office of the Governor, the Youth Elites Forum called on political parties in the State to pick their Gubernatorial candidates from Kwara North and urged them to consider patriotic individuals from the district whose choice will be acceptable across board.
