The Scanning Centre at the Apapa Premier port in Lagos, is to be demolished so as to give way for the rail track leading into the APM Terminal in Apapa port.
This follows the recent order issued to that effect, by the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, when he inspected the ongoing construction and laying of the rail track into the port. He explained that the Customs Scanning Centre was an obstruction to the continuation of the work hence the need to pull it down.
In the meantime, the Minister suggests the establishment of a temporary alternative route inside the port while the demolition continues after which, the rail track would be laid and a survey would also be carried out under the water to check for necessary cracks.
Mr Amaechi stated that one benefit of the project would be reduced cost of doing business and increased Government revenue at the Ports. He however assured Ports Users that the inauguration of the project would hold inspite of the delay in completion of the last track, noting that, the two tracks which lead to the Apapa port, have already been completed.
