Police have again arrested the co-convener of RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, for leading a protest in Abuja on New Year’s Day.
Sowore was arrested along with others during a protest against the Nigerian government in the early hours of Friday, January 1, 2021.
At about 1:29am, his media outfit, Sahara Reporters reported that he has been arrested in Abuja alongside some other people who were present at the protest.
Eyewitnesses say policemen suspected to be with the Rapid Response Squad stormed Gudu junction in Abuja, wounding Sowore before taken him away with other activists at the location.
Deji Adeyanju, who confirmed Sowore’s arrest, called on police to release him.
“Protest can never be a crime in a democracy, tyrant Buhari free Sowore now”, he tweeted.
Sowore before his reported arrest had on his twitter page called for a nationwide crossover protest against President Buhari’s government.
His tweet read, “How about a Cross Over Protest/Uprising tonight? Anyone willing to participate?”
