The Management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA says the Agency has made significant progress in securing sea time berths for seafarers despite limitations posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Director General of the Agency, Dr Bashir Jamoh stated this in Lagos, following the recent three months extension period granted the over four hundred Nigerian seafareres who took part in sea time training in different parts of the world.
The three months programme attracted the award of Certificate of Competency to the beneficiaries and was extended to another three months by NIMASA, to enable the seafarers to complete their training, amidst the global lockdown.
Dr. Jamoh said that despite the outbreak of the pandemic, the Agency had intensified efforts to secure sea time oppotunities for a good number of the trained cadets across the globe.
He also explained that his Agency was in constant touch with Nigerian Embassies in the beneficiary’s host Countries, the students themselves and their leaders, in order to monitor their conditions and guard against any eventualities which could have keep them stranded while in the foreign lands.
Another batch of cadets, is said to have been approved for foreign training but for the global covid19 pandemic.
