At his home in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike met privately with Action Alliance Presidential Candidate Hamza Al-Mustapha.
Al-Mustapha served as the late General Sani Abacha’s chief security officer and served under him as military head of state from 1993 to 1998.
The agenda for the governor’s meeting with Al-Mustapha and his team was not made public as of the time of publication, similar to many recent visits by presidential contenders to Wike as none of them spoke to journalists after the session.
However, it is thought that the visit is part of ongoing preparations for general elections in 2019, which many predict would be nonpartisan.

In recent years, Governor Wike’s private property has played host to a number of prominent politicians, particularly in the wake of the Peoples Democratic Party’s reactionary presidential primary.
Since Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, won the election in May, Wike, a candidate in the party’s primary, and his supporters—some of whom are governors—have requested the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman and a fellow northerner like Atiku.

To balance the imbalance in the party’s leadership positions, Wike and his allies want Ayu to stand down and be replaced with a candidate from the south.
Governor Wike had been talking with various politicians both domestically and overseas while the problem persisted.
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, and Bola Tinubu, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress, are among his guests. Additionally, he was said to have met Atiku in London.
Wike has also met with former president Olusegun Obasanjo, former APC presidential candidate Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi State, and APC Governors. He has stated that he will continue the conversations since they are in the best interests of Nigerians.
