Professor Wole Soyinka, a Nobel Laureate, has denied giving tribute to Bola Tinubu, the former Lagos Governor and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Soyinka was responding to a viral tribute to Tinubu that was ascribed to him immediately after the former governor clinched the APC presidential nomination.
The dramatist urged the general public to disregard the deceptive homage and to be on the lookout for nameless cowards propagating lies.
Soyinka went on to say that he had never congratulated Tinubu on his political achievements and that he did not own or own any social media accounts.
He stated this in a statement provided by his spokesman, Abiola Owoaje, captioned, “I did not pay tribute to Tinubu-Soyinka.”
The statement further said, “The literary luminary reiterated his position on the 2023 elections and the issues surrounding it, noting that he has no business meddling in the struggle for power by political parties in the country.
“Soyinka enjoins the general public to be on alert to the antics of faceless cowards spreading falsehood, adding that they should not partake in the despicable action of the authors by spreading the cocktail of lies.”
