Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday.
Atiku came at the Hilton Towers of Obasanjo at 10:10 a.m. and was greeted by the Ogun political strongman.
His visit was not unrelated to his presidential campaign in 2023.
When they both ran the country from 1999 to 2007, Atiku was Obasanjo’s deputy.
The former Vice President has attempted to lead the country on several occasions, but to no success.
He ran for President of Nigeria in 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but he was defeated by incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, Nigerian youths have been urged by the former Vice President to compete with the elders if they want to control the country.
After a closed-door meeting with Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Atiku spoke with reporters.
When asked how he felt about requests for senior politicians to step down to make way for the youths, Atiku stated that the youths should also run.
“Let the youth compete. It is competition. It’s a democracy,” Atiku replied.
He stated that he would announce his intention to run for president in 2023 as soon as possible.
