The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Committee tasked with finding a running mate for Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, has settled on Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to a source present at the meeting, the Umaru Damagum-led committee members were asked to vote for their preferred option after much deliberation.
“Yes, we had a useful deliberation on the way forward on who should be the running mate to our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
“Members of the committee present voted and at the end of the exercise, Governor Nyesom Wike scored 16 votes. There was no need to continue because we were just 19 members,” the source said.
House Minority Leader, Hon. Tony Elumelu, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, former governor of Niger State, Babagida Aliyu, former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, former Cross Rivers State Governor, Liyel Imoke and others were among those who attended the meeting.
Former Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko, PDP National Secretary Sam Nwayanu, National Organising Secretary Hon. Umar Bature, and former Senate President David Mark are among the others.
Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike will appear before the presidential screening committee on Wednesday or Thursday.
