Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), declared on Tuesday that, if elected, he will appoint 750,000 new soldiers to the armed forces, bringing their total number to one million.
During the presentation of his manifesto in Abuja, Kwankwaso made the pledge. He claimed that one strategy he will use to improve the security situation in the nation is to expand the number and capability of the armed forces.

The former governor of Kano State said that he will review the current fuel subsidy system, which he characterised as being extremely corrupt.
Kwankwaso is the current national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and the NNPP’s presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023. He is well-liked and regarded as a charismatic populist in Kano and north-western Nigeria. He was re-elected governor of the state in 2011, and in 2014, he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The opposition All Progressive Congress nominated Kwankwaso to run for president in 2015, but he was defeated by Muhammad Buhari. He joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) again in 2018 and ran in the presidential primaries, where he was defeated by Atiku Abubakar.
