Orji Uzor Kalu, a presidential hopeful and Senate Chief Whip, has urged Nigerians to judge presidential candidates on their ability and knowledge rather than their age.
According to sources, the former governor of Abia state proclaimed his intention to succeed President Muhammaudu Buhari in 2023 January 2022.
On Saturday, Kalu wrote on his verified Facebook page that the age of presidential candidates should be ignored and that what matters is who the people believe will provide the best leadership.
The 61-year-old lawmaker added that leadership skills and understanding do not come with age, emphasizing that both young and old are qualified to run for president in 2023.
He wrote: “I find it inappropriate when people judge people based on age. The truth is that wisdom and knowledge for leadership don’t come with age. In leadership, both young and old are eligible.
“It is not done by age but the knowledge you have to serve the people. Age doesn’t seem to impact a leader’s willingness to step up, issue directives, and provide rewards for performance.
“For us, Nigerians, What should be more important is who the people believe to give the right leadership.”
