The All Progressives Congress (APC), has close down talks linking President Muhammadu Buhari with a 3rd time period schedule because it has been alleged through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), stated this in a statement issued in Abuja, on Thursday.
Akpanudoedehe, had earlier stated that the celebration might give you a consensus and agreeable presidential candidate to fly its flag for the 2023 Presidential Election, while reacting to allegation by the PDP that Buhari had a succession plan.
He stated it turned into unlucky that the APC’s in advance announcement, countering the PDP fake allegation, turned into being twisted and given accidental interpretations in a few sections of the media.
“Our announcement is straightforward and directly forward. President Buhari has no 0.33 time period ambition, a function he has in my view reiterated.
“In adherence to inner democracy, whilst the time involves decide on the APC 2023 presidential flag bearer and different celebration applicants, the system may be in complete compliance with the provisions of the 1999 amended Nigerian Constitution, the APC Constitution and the authorised celebration guidelines.
“For clarity, the APC Constitution provides that party candidates in all elections emerge via democratically conducted primary elections or where possible, consensus,” he stated.
He added that the deceptive interpretations given to the party’s earlier statement was a conspiracy concentrated on senior APC leaders and their perceived 2023 presidential ambitions.
Akpanudoedehe stated this was pointless and misplaced, stressing that the APC management might now no longer impose any candidate in the lead up to congresses, National Convention and the 2023 General Elections.
