Former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar is likely to officially enter the race for the presidency in 2023, InsightnaijaTV reports.
Atiku will officially declare on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, according to a statement released on Friday by the chairman of his campaign group’s technical committee, Chief Raymond Dokpesi.
The declaration will take place at 11 a.m. at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, according to the statement.
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate in 2019, is expected to run for the presidency again in 2023.
He has already received the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidacy and expression of interest form for the 2023 general elections, as previously reported.
The North East Business Forum, the group responsible for the purchase of the interest form, submitted the form to the Presidential candidate on Thursday, March 17, 2022.
Atiku described the gift as a promise kept, and he thanked the forum for their efforts.
This online news outlet previously reported that Atiku has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be making a mistake by zoning its presidential ticket for 2023 to the south.
He stated that, while having developed zoning as a means of ensuring a sense of belonging in every region of the country, the PDP is not obligated to zone its presidential ticket for 2023 to the south.
According to Atiku, who spoke with members of the PDP’s Board of Trustees in Abuja on Tuesday, the south was exploited fourteen times during the PDP’s sixteen years in power, thus the 2023 ticket should not go to the region again.
He went on to say that while the current All Progressives Congress (APC) may be under pressure to offer its ticket to the south, the PDP should not be fooled by the prospect of a southern presidency in 2023.
