At least 16 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates for governor have visited Governor Nyesom Wike at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, including Mustapha Sule Lamido, the governorship flag-bearer in Jigawa State.
In order to convince Wike to restore relationships with the party and Atiku Abubakar, the visit was made.
The governor has been engaged in a constant conflict with the PDP leadership and Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, over the party’s refusal to uphold the agreement that Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman, would hand over his post to someone from the south if the party’s presidential candidate came from the northern part of the country.
At the time this report was submitted, Wike and the potential governor candidates were gathering behind closed doors at his private home in the Port Harcourt suburb of Rumueprikon on Ada George Road.

It should be recalled that on September 6th, Wike made a suggestion that he might be facing threats to his life.
Wike made the comment during the official opening of the Rivers State University’s Etche Campus on Tuesday in the Abara town of the Etche Local Government Area.
The governor acknowledged that some of his close friends and family had voiced concern for his safety, but he had encouraged them not to worry since God was on his side.
“Someone warned me to be careful because they would kill you. Who was killed? Who told you that you wouldn’t pass away before you got to me? Therefore, those of you who are in a panic need not do so. What do you fear if you have God? They have pursued us and engaged in combat with us, but now we remain unwavering.
Wike also explained his remarks regarding the reasons why he claimed he was prepared to deal with opponents of his electoral eligibility.
