From the 16-passenger boat that sank on July 8 in the Ojo region of Lagos State, a total of 15 dead have been found.
The new figure was confirmed by the general manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel.
On Saturday, four of the victims’ bodies were found; on Sunday, 11 more were.
LASWA, National Inland Waterways, Nigerian Marine Police, and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Search and Rescue teams are still looking for the last body, according to Emmanuel.
InsightnaijaTV the 16-passenger boat had just departed Mile 2 towards Ibeshe in the Ojo Area when the tragedy occurred.
According to an earlier report from LASWA, the boat departed on Friday at 7:45 p.m. with a capacity of 16 passengers.
By going in the late hours of the night without giving passengers life jackets, according to Emmanuel, the boat driver violated the laws of the waterways.
