Thirteen Permanent Secretaries who honorably served the Lagos State Government and retired statutorily after reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60 years or 35 years in service were feted today at a funfair after retiring between February and October 2021.
According to a press release by Femi Ogun, Head Public Affairs, the retired Permanent Secretary include; Mr. Mustapha, Abdul-Ahmed Olorunfemi Mohammed (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources), Mr Olaide-Mesewaku, Babatunde Anthony (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture), Arc. Dipe, Foluso Adebayo (Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development), Mrs. Durosinmi-Etti, Olorunkemi,(Cabinet Office), Eng. Hotonu, Olujimi Nunayon, (Ministry of Works and Infrastructure) Mr. Erinle, Olumide Olufolami (Education District V), Mrs Odejayi, Yetunde Adefolahan, (Office of the Deputy Governor), Mrs Adekanye, Adebunmi Elizabeth (Ministry of Home Affairs), Mrs Deile, Helen Morenike (Office of the State Auditor General), Mrs Ajenifuja, Kafayat Adetokunbo (Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment), Mrs Abolarin, Adesumbo Idiat (Office of the Auditor -General for Local Governments), Mrs Adelaja, Abosede Omobolanle (Ministry of Education) and Mrs Ayoola, Iyabo Oyeyemi (Ministry of Finance).
The Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, confirmed that all 13 retirees contributed meritoriously to the growth and advancement of Lagos State during the Year 2021 ‘Pens Down’ ceremony on Wednesday at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, adding that it is an accomplishment that should not be taken for granted. He urged them, however, to make every effort to assist the state whenever they are called upon, noting that the government would continue to profit from their huge reservoirs of knowledge for policy formulation and execution in order to keep the state moving forward.
“As the newest members of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, government would continue to look forward to benefiting from your vast reservoirs of the policy formulation and implementation in order to continue to move the state forward,” Muri-Okunola said.
He also reminded the retirees that they are now in a better position to use their skills, broad knowledge, and extensive administrative and managerial experience to add value to themselves and their immediate communities, particularly the youths who will be expected to shoulder the leadership burden after them.
The Head of Service thanked the retirees for their loyalty, devotion, perseverance, dedication, and untold sacrifices throughout the years, and he also thanked them for their support and cooperation with him as the Head of Service, saying, “All of you made my work simpler.”
Mr. Samson Ajibade, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, said in his address that one of the major attributes of successful leaders is the sustained capacity to manage diverse human and material resources while ensuring compliance with processes, laid down procedure, and relevant legal obligation processes of achieving organizational goals and objectives, a feat that has earned the 13 retirees a place among those being honored for their unblemished public service.
Ajibade congratulated the retirees and their families, as well as a large number of well-wishers.
Mrs Deile, Helen, the immediate permanent secretary of the Office of the State Auditor General, spoke on behalf of the retirees, thanking the Lagos State Government for allowing them to serve, and advising those still in active service not to look back but to contribute their quota to improving the state’s and humanity’s lot in general.
